Authentic self expression is at the heart of my approach in therapy. I believe that everything changes when we take accountability for our desires and step closer to living in integrity.

Core values of my practice…

Authenticity: I show up as me and ask you to show up as you. This might mean that we have some clunky human moments, and we can work through those together. The client-therapist relationship is where we can practice repairs and managing discomfort in an emotionally safe way.

Beneficence: This value started to develop for me when I was deep in Dan Savage’s podcast The Savage Lovecast. Dan Savage speaks to the campsite rule, but applied to relationships: “leave people better than you found them”. This is at the core of everything I do within my therapy practice. We will move through challenging conversations in a clear and kind way to gain deeper insight into how you are showing up in relationships, and life.

Passion: When we are connected with our passions we can do great things! I have found that it is all too easy to get sidetracked by trying to stay on top of all of the logistics of our lives, and when this happens it can get in the way of us truly living. When we are connected to passion it transforms us from human-doing to human-being.

Justice: This is an important part of my practice, where I step out of being a “blank-slate” and will name what I am hearing and seeing in the room. My practice involves assertiveness training, so we can get more comfortable with being in potentially uncomfortable conversations. This starts in the therapy room where we game out what keeps us from speaking up, and putting the risks into proportion.

Your Questions, Answered

  • Absolutely! I think this is an essential part of finding the right counsellor for anybody. Like most counsellors out there, I offer a free phone consultation to discuss what you’re experiencing, and how I may be able to help. A consult also provides you the opportunity to ask any questions you have, and for us to get a better sense of one another. You can quickly and easily book a consult with me here.

  • Counselling looks different for everyone, but the first appointment, I will guide you. There is nothing you need to do to prepare for your first session aside from giving yourself ample time to arrive at the appointment, and at least 10 minutes to have a tea or go for a walk after the appointment.

  • I am committed to showing up as my authentic self in our sessions together. I work with humour and immediacy - which is the recognition of the relationship between me and my clients while it is happening in real time. I will welcome you with full warmth, presence, and honesty whether it is our first session or hundredth session together!

  • Life happens! I get it!

If you know you won’t be able to make your appointment, please let me know as soon as you can. We can always switch to a video or phone appointment if that might work better for you. I have a 48 hour cancellation policy, meaning that there is the full session fee associated with any cancellations within 48 hours of your appointment start time.

  • In the unlikely event that I am legally required to break confidentiality would be if there is a high likelihood of imminent and grave harm to the client and/or a third-party, or when required to do so by law due to a subpoena. If any of these instances occur in our time together, we will work collaboratively to break confidentiality.

  • “Vancouver is a small town that pretends to be a big city” – Sacha Medine, RCC

This may happen at some point, and that’s okay! I will not approach you or treat you as if we have any prior relationship. If you would like to say hello, I welcome that!
